Rebuilding Confidence: A Springvale Success Story

JH first moved into Springvale Care Home after experiencing several falls at home, resulting in numerous hospital admissions. Despite being described as a social butterfly throughout his life, JH had become isolated since his accidents due to this sudden knock of confidence. The active and social lifestyle he once enjoyed had almost entirely halted due to the new anxieties associated with his falls, as well as his dementia diagnosis.

Building Back Confidence
One factor that led JH’s family to choose Springvale Care Home was the fact his brother, who also lives with dementia, resides here happily. He and his family knew our kind staff could be trusted to provide compassionate care and help both brothers get the most out of their lives.
Initially, JH was supported to get involved in small group activities, with his brother by his side as a companion for emotional support. These first steps were instrumental in building his confidence, as well as good friendships and relationships with others in the home. Soon enough, JH became more comfortable engaging with others in a social setting with less and less support.
A New Lease of Life
Since moving into Springvale Care Home, JH has flourished and is now focused on spending his days doing the things he enjoys, reassured by the constant, gentle support surrounding him. He now enjoys attending social events, such as Gents’ Club, both with his brother and with the new friends he has made.
JH is back to his joyful self and is as heavily involved with his community as ever, with the support from the dedicated Springvale team. JH has thoroughly enjoyed our stimulating baking class, outings to the transport museum and has recently taken up cycling as part of our weekly cycle group. The new lease of life he has found is even bringing others out of their shells, with JH’s friendly and confident nature making others feel comfortable to be themselves around him.
Katy, unit manager at Springvale says, “JH is now an integral part of the Springvale community, often helping other residents as well as staff members. He is now more confident in himself and eager to experience new hobbies and interests alongside his current ones.”
