Flipping Fantastic Fun on Pancake Day
We love creating special, memorable moments here at Springvale Care Home, and pancake day offered us the perfect excuse to make and enjoy some sweet treats!
Ahead of pancake day, we purchased new crêpe grills and our residents thoroughly enjoyed getting involved with every stage of the process. From making the batter and preparing toppings to cooking their own pancakes, the day was filled with laughter and enthusiasm. Residents savoured their pancakes with a wide range of toppings to choose from, including different textures and flavours to try. We even held a pancake flipping competition which brought a vibrant, competitive energy to our home.
The sense of independence that came from these simple cooking tasks was clear to see. Residents of all abilities were encouraged to get involved, with our friendly team ready to lend a hand wherever needed. One of the best parts of the day was, of course, tucking in to our delicious creations; residents were proud to see their hard work pay off, boosting their mood and self-confidence.
This has inspired us to continue developing our cooking and baking sessions over the coming weeks, as part of our varied activities programme. Offering frequent opportunities for mental and social stimulation is highly important to us here at Springvale, and is what makes our holistic, person-centred care so effective. Activities like these give residents the chance to socialise with other residents, reminisce, move around, practice using fine motor skills and experience the many sensory elements that come with baking. On top of this, our patient and empathetic care team are always on hand to help residents with additional needs, such as those living with dementia or limited mobility, so everyone is included and empowered to choose how they want to live.
